On March 31, 2022, on behalf of the Council of the Village of Alma, the Clerk sent a letter to Minister Daniel Allain, along with a petition presented to the Village Office by Alma residents and taxpayers.

Please see below, the response received to the letter and petition on May 6, 2022, from Minister Daniel Allain:

“Ms. Downey:

Thank you for your email of March 31, 2022, in which you shared a letter on behalf of council and a petition in support of council’s endeavour to split Entity 42. I also appreciated the opportunity to meet with you and members of council.

After consideration of all the input received, I am confirming that we are moving forward with our reform efforts as outlined on the Local Governance Reform website ( We continue to believe that this is the best option for the long-term sustainability of the region and the province.

We look forward to the work ahead by the transition facilitator and local representatives to establish a positive path forward. The outcome will be stronger and sustainable communities and an enhanced quality of life for all New Brunswickers.
